How each model answers, rather than what it answers: whether it leans toward an option
because of where it sits in the list, how much weight it puts on its pick, and how much
its answer moves with the wording or the language of the question.
These habits cut across topics, so they can tell apart models that give the same answers.
ModelLean to the first option Each request lists the options in a new random order, so a model that ignored order would put, on average, 1/k of its probability on whichever option comes first (k options). Shown is the model’s mean probability on the first-listed and last-listed option minus that 1/k, in percentage points, averaged per question and then over questions. Whiskers are ±2 standard errors over questions; solid dots clear zero by more than that. On two-option questions, first and last are the only positions, so the two columns roughly mirror each other.Lean to the last optionDecisiveness The probability the model puts on its top pick, averaged over runs and questions. Random-pick questions are left out.Wording How much a model’s answer moves between rewordings of the same question: the mean Jensen–Shannon distance between its average answers to each wording (0 = same answer every way it is asked).
Position leans in percentage points, from −13 to +13.
Solid dots clear zero by more than two standard errors. Sorted by the lean to the first option.

A few questions are also asked in Simplified and Traditional Chinese, with the same options. Each row is one model’s average probability on the answer shown, in each script. The answer tracked is the one whose probability moves most between scripts, averaged over models.
The same question in English, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. A long line
means the model answers differently depending on the language.
