Clusters
Which decision models answer alike, grouped from the answers alone. No question is marked as the one that matters: the clusters and the axes below come from every answer on every question, and the questions that set them apart are read off afterwards.
20 models, 57 questions: Chinese politics and history, countries and leaders, self-identity, everyday Chinese knowledge and random picks. A confirmed base model is named in parentheses.
Similarity tree
Distance between two models is the Jensen–Shannon distance between their average answer probabilities, averaged over the questions both answered (0 = identical, 1 = no answer in common). The tree joins the closest models first; a join’s position is the mean distance between the two groups it joins. The dashed line cuts the tree into the 3 clusters that are best separated (mean silhouette 0.23), trying 3 to 6. The two-way split scores higher (0.34) but only separates the first cluster from the rest, which the first axis below already shows. What sets each cluster apart
For each question, the cluster’s average answer probabilities are compared with the average over every other model. Listed are the questions where the two differ most, with the answer the cluster favors more.Cluster 1

Main axes
Principal component analysis of the answer matrix: one row per model, one column per answer option, holding the model’s average probability. Each axis is the direction along which models differ most, after the axes before it. The questions listed load most heavily on it, with the answer each end leans toward. Scores are in arbitrary units; only the order and spacing along an axis mean anything. The directions along which the models differ most. Bars are colored by cluster.

Nearest neighbour by topic
The model each model is closest to, over all questions and within each topic alone. A neighbour in bold differs from the overall one. A pair that are neighbours on every topic answer alike throughout; a model whose neighbour changes from topic to topic resembles different models on different subjects. The smaller topics have only two to five questions, so their neighbours rest on less. Each model’s closest model; hover for the distance. The dot is the neighbour’s cluster.
